dawes-mattjacobyDawes, the L.A. quartet whose previously self-released debut “North Hills” gets a shot of adrenaline when ATO Records re-releases it on Sept. 29, starts its L.A. residency (the foursome is also doing Mondays at the Detroit Bar) at the Echo. Supporting are Slang Chickens and a band called Big Echo – whom Web In Front deduces to be the Morning Benders. … The Capshuns, whose music I previewed back in May, will be test-driving some of the new album they’re working on when they play Club NME at Spaceland; Shiloe, Queen Kwong and the Black Kites will make it a busy night. … Should be a good time in two languages at downtown’s La Cita, where bilingual rockers Wait Think Fast are headlining Mucho Wednesdays. … And at the Silverlake Lounge, it’s Heavy Young Heathens and Roll the Tanks. … Also: The Hollywood Bowl tribute to Miles Davis and Gil Evans; Blue October and Switchfoot at the Wiltern; Alejandro Escovedo at the Troubadour; Abe Vigoda at the Smell; Free Moral Agents at Low End Theory at the Airliner;” Big Business at the Knitting Factory; the Script at the sold-out El Rey Theatre; Luke Top playing the free outdoor series at Pershing Square; the Nikhil Korula Band at the House of Blues; and London to Tokyo doing the early set at the Viper Room.
