Fitz’ & the Tantrums’ “Breakin’ the Chains of Love” might be the best 1960s song made 40 years late. Next week, that song [downloadable here], along with “Winds of Change” , will get a proper release on Fitz’s debut EP, “Songs for a Break-Up, Vol. 1.” Already out on iTunes, it’s garagey soul that’s the stuff of wounded hearts and sleepless nights. Fitz’s secret weapon in the band is his female foil, Noelle Scaggs – yeah, she’s got some pipes too, and it’s a great 1-2 punch. Before Fitz goes out on a September tour with Flogging Molly (now that’s an interesting pairing), he plays the Troubadour on Aug. 19, with U-N-I and Kenan Bell.
