Downloads: Attack of the covers – 3 for your weekend

File under synchronicity: Over the course of a 24-hour period this week, I was e-mailed, or stumbled upon, three cover songs performed by Los Angeles bands. All are interesting takes on the originals, so I thought I’d share. First, indie-pop quintet You Me & Iowa [pictured] delivering a surprisingly harmonic version of the Troggs’ hit “Wild Thing.” It makes everything groovy.” Meanwhile, via You Ain’t no Picasso, Michael Orendy – whom you know as Frankel – has released a gorgeously fragile cover of Nick Drake’s “Know.” And finally, while wondering what my favorite desert-dwellers Gram Rabbit were up to (why, making a new album, of course), I found that a couple months ago they had posted an appropriately trippy take on Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit.” In the interests of your weekend mixtapes:
