The Flaming Lips, fresh off a weekend appearance at Beer Fest in San Diego County, land at the Greek Theatre, with Ghostland Observatory in tow. Playing early is Stardeath and White Dwarfs – the new band fronted by Wayne Coyne’s nephew and former Lips roadie, Dennis Coyne. Their new album, “The Birth,” has a song called “Smoking Pot Makes Me Not Want to Kill Myself,” need I say more? … It’s the second night of Depeche Mode and Peter Bjorn and John at the Hollywood Bowl. … Clipse and the Cool Kids rock the House of Blues. … The Monday night residencies continue – the Growlers, with Thelonious Monster and Xu Xu Fang supporting, at the Echo; Lower Heaven, with Miranda Lee Richards, Nick Jago and the Meeting Places, at the Silverlake Lounge; Local Natives, with Voxhaul Broadcast and the Lonely H, at Spaceland; and Dawes and the Yelling at the Detroit Bar. … Also: Oh Darling at the Viper Room; Paula Valstein at the Hotel Cafe; and Japan Night at the Roxy with Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re, Lemon Drop Kick and more.
