Tonight in L.A.: Carney, Sylvain Sylvain, J Tillman

What a long, strange summer it’s turning out to be for L.A. quartet Carney. The bluesy rockers – who it seems like I’ve been hearing about forever although they only have a single and an EP to their credit after about three years – has done some club dates, traveled to Australia, opened for the Veronicas and even played a noontime set Sunday at Lollapalooza. Ahead they have an appearance at San Diego Street Scene and a tour supporting Gov’t Mule. Tonight they play a KROQ-sponsored show at the Roxy at which, promises guitarist Zane Carney in a blog post, the band will announce a release date for its debut album on Interscope. End Roulette and Caitlin Crosby also perform. … Also: Sylvain Sylvain, along with Angus Khan, at the Knitting Factory; Electric Valentine’s CD release party at the Slide Bar in Fullerton; Trevor Hall’s album release show at the Hotel Cafe; the Fleet Foxes’ J Tillman at the Echo; Hockey at the Troubadour; Jedi Mind Tricks at the El Rey Theatre; Firs at the Silverlake Lounge; Mother Mother at Spaceland; Lukas Nelson at the Santa Monica Pier; ZZ Top at the House of Blues Anaheim; and Nathan Maxwell at the Viper Room.
