News bits: Music Go Music, Sonic Youth, Airborne

musicgomusic-autumndewildeHasn’t been announced yet, but I hear that L.A. disco kids Music Go Music – the electro persona of the principals in Bodies of Water – have been asked to open the U.K. dates on Franz Ferdinand’s tour. Nice score. Apparently the Franz folks caught the recent show at Bordello.

‣ No word on Avi Buffalo’s musical future, but the young Long Beach band will headline the Echo on Nov. 5 (which is Avi’s 19th birthday). Aaron Embry (Amnion) will also debut his solo music that night.

‣ After another bout of problems (last time, vocal cords; this time, bronchitis) sidelined singer Mikel Jollett, the Airborne Toxic Event scotched its Australia/New Zealand tour (sorry, mate) and is resting up for a tour – starting Sept. 17 at Pomona’s Fox Theater – that includes 35 U.S. dates, seven in the U.K., a festival in the Netherlands and, finally, a Dec. 4 gig at Disney Hall. Whew.

Sonic Youth, forced to cancel their September dates because guitarist Lee Ranaldo broke his wrist playing tennis, has rescheduled for Jan. 8 at Pomona’s Fox Theater.

“Let Them Know – The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO,” a documentary on the early L.A. punk scene, screens tonight at the Ricardo Montalban Theater in Hollywood. After the screening, 7 Seconds, Youth Brigade and Swingin’ Utters will perform. That’s worth the $17.

‣ Sub Pop has signed Beach House, and the Baltimore band will tour this fall with Grizzly Bear, including Oct. 20 at the Wiltern.

‣ This got my attention: The Pogues are touring the U.S., including Oct. 17 at Club Nokia, with the Aggrolites opening.
