Nine Inch Nails, two days later

What do you do after you’ve witnessed an exhilarating Nine Inch Nails show at the Fonda on a Tuesday night? If you’re Andrew Malagon of Glendale, you high-tail it to the Wiltern Theatre to be first in line for the Thursday show.

Malagon, a recent Cal State L.A. graduate, spent the better part of two days near the corner of Wilshire and Western so he could be first through the doors to see the final show on NIN’s “Wave Goodbye” tour. It was the ninth time he’s seen Trent Reznor and gang, and his third concert this month, having caught the Fonda and Palladium shows.

What’s the appeal? “Trent really covers a lot of bases with his sound – if you go back to his first album, it has the synth ’80s feel, and yet in the ’90s you got the angry metal feel,” Malagon said. “I remember at the show in Santa Barbara he jumped out into the audience. … It’s amazing he’s so willing to get involved with the crowd at that level and can still sing the songs.”
