New bits: Abbot Kinney Festival, CACS, Lobsterfest

chief-3clubs-LS1The Abbot Kinney Festival is suddenly serious about offering good music. The just-announced lineup for the Sept. 27 neighborhood fair features the likes of Juliette Commagere, Haim and Kenneth Pattengale on one stage, and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Chief [pictured], Eskimohunter, Dios, the Parson Red Heads, the Damselles and Matt Ellis on another. And there’s plenty more.

Festival Update II: The third annual Clean Air Clear Stars kicks off Friday at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown (there’s a pre-party at Spaceland tonight). It was huge fun last year. This year, lineup highlights include the Morning After Girls, Sky Parade and Lower Heaven on Friday; the Tender Box, Magic Mirror, the Quarter After, Gram Rabbit, Spindrift and the Dandy Warhols on Saturday; and Les Blanks and the Moon Upstairs on Sunday. It benefits Global Inheritance, and you donate at the door. Good reason for a road trip.

Festival Update III: And the lineup for the Eagle Rock Music Festival on Oct. 3 is pretty stellar too. No Age, Leslie & the Badgers, Nico Stai, Fol Chen, the Happy Hollows and the Faraway Places head up the party.

Festival Update IV: The Bangkok Five has had to drop off Friday night’s bill at Lobsterfest at the Port of Los Angeles because guitarist Nik Frost has sustained a broken foot. The Spider Problem has replaced them.
