[Hearty 75th birthday wishes go out today to Leonard Cohen. Here’s how to start off your week:]
If you are a Weezer fan, you should follow the Roxy Theatre on Twitter today. I’m just sayin’ [Update: Show is at 2 p.m.] … Rival Sons are an quartet of veteran L.A. guys – singer Jay Buchanan, guitarist Scott Holiday, bassist Robin Everhart and drummer Michael Miley – who’ve made one gnarly blues-rock album titled “Before the Fire.” Starting tonight, they will do a three-night stint at the Viper Room called “3Quinox” – a trio of shows marking the autumnal equinox. The mystic power of the guitar? Maybe. … French duo CocoRosie hit town for a show at the Music Box @ Fonda. … Jack Tempchin (he wrote “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” kids) resurrects his “Big Mondays” night at the Joint – years back, the residency/jam session at the Pico Boulevard venue attracted the likes of Roger Daltrey, Joe Walsh, Mike Campbell, Chris Hillman, George Thorogood, George Clinton and other A-listers, and his band includes bassist Rick Rosas (Neil Young), drummer Phil Jones (Tom Petty, Roy Orbison), guitarist Berton Averre (the Knack) and keyboardist Rob Meurer (JD Souther). … Erin McCarley, supported by Landon Pigg, holds forth at the Troubadour. … The Broken West’s Ross Fluornoy does an intimate solo gig at the Little Room at Largo. … The residencies should be hopping tonight too: Saint Motel’s themed shows (tonight is “experimental movie” night) go on with Army Navy and Lemon Sun also on the bill at Spaceland; Leslie & the Badgers welcome the Street and Babe Shadow (Luke Paquin from Hot Hot Heat) as support; and the Icarus Line rocks out at the Silverlake Lounge with Moonrats and Golden Years. … Also: Frank Fairfield at the Redwood Bar; and Juke Cartel at the Hotel Cafe.

Love the Rival Son’s. Have followed Jay Bucanan since he was just starting out. He is just an awsome player and singer who deserves every good thing that comes his way. Anyone who hasn’t heard him and the group Rival Son’s are missing out.
When I saw Rival Sons at the Roxy I was FLOORED… These guys know the recipe to amazing rock music. Will definitely see them often.
