You probably have to be of a – ahem – certain age to remember Miracle Legion, the Connecticut college-rock band (1984-97), whose quavering jangle-pop got a lot of comparisons to R.E.M., or Polaris, the band also fronted by singer Mark Mulcahy that did the music for the ’90s Nickelodeon program “The Adventures of Pete & Pete.” Now the groups’ music gets a new lease on life with the release next week of “Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy” on L.A.-based Shout! Factory. The tribute album features the likes of Thom Yorke – the Radiohead main man performs publicly with his brother Andy for the first time – as well as Michael Stipe, Dinosaur Jr., Juliana Hatfield, the National and Frank Black, among others. (The rhythm section of Miracle went on to play as part of Frank Black and the Catholics.) Proceeds from the album go to assist Mulcahy and his daughters – his wife Melissa died suddenly 2008. Above, the video, directed by Melinda Tupling, for the Yorkes’ contribution, “All My Best.”
