As a guy known in some circles for his wide array of Buffalo Tom T-shirts, I risk going all fan-boy in touting this song: a cover of Big Star’s “Thirteen” by BT’s Bill Janovitz and Letters to Cleo frontwoman (and now Los Angeles resident) Kay Hanley. Janovitz [pictured at a 2008 benefit with Hanley, left, and Lori McKenna] has been posting a cover per week on his blog, “Part Time Man of Rock” and explains of “Thirteen”: “It’s a drop-dead song and should be up there with ‘Yesterday’ for most-covered pop songs.” I could go on and on and on about Buffalo Tom, and probably will at some point, but for now I’ll just encourage you to take a few moments out your blistering hot weekend and read Janovitz’s narrative.
