Tonight in L.A.: Har Mar Superstar, Trail of Dead

[Apologies for the tardiness of this post. Your faithful servant was still reeling from the rawk-accompanied video montages they showed at the Cardinals-Dodgers game last night …]

It’s a big night for Sean Tillman, who in his persona as disco party captain Har Mar Superstar launches into a U.S. tour by headlining the Echo. Har Mar’s new album, “Dark Touches,” comes out next week [above, the video for the song “Tall Boy,” co-written by Greg Kurstin, and featuring Eva Mendes, Alia Shawkat and Eric Wareheim], and no matter what you think of his schtick (opinions often vary depending your quantity of Tall Boys), Har Mar crafts irrestistible ’80s anthems. And delivers them live. … Elsewhere, great night at the Fonda, where And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead headlines and Future of the Left [download below] opens. … The Rescues bring their catchy pop to the Troubadour. … A Hawk and A Hacksaw headlines Spaceland. … There’s another installment of the monthly Garden Party, a post-Downtown Art Walk show at Edgar Varela Fine Arts, this one featuring Oliver Future and Divisible. … Seattle trio the Blakes join Fitz & the Tantrums at Futuresounds’ Rumble at 3 Clubs. … And country-soul songstress Audra Mae will hold forth at Vermont in Los Feliz. … Also: Mr. Green All-Stars at the Echoplex; Andrew W.K. (with the Calder Quartet) at Largo; Cave In at the Knitting Factory; the Snow at the Bootleg Theater; Wintergreen at the Silverlake Lounge; Kyle Hollingsworth at the Mint; Alaskan Summer at the Hotel Cafe; a John Hughes Tribute at the Viper Room; and Dusty Rhodes and the River Band supporting State Radio at the House of Blues Anaheim.
