Like his weekly club night and various DJ gigs around town, as well as his radio show on KXLU-FM, Michael Stock’s Part Time Punks Festival offers something of a history lesson for those too young to have witnessed the formative years of punk rock.

Heading up the syllabus for his second annual festival Sunday at the Echo and Echoplex: post-punk pioneers the Raincoats [pictured in 1979] and Factory Records signees Section 25. The all-female Raincoats [a recent review here] put out three albums beetween 1979 and ’84 and were rather famously championed by Kurt Cobain, whose support led to the re-release of those albums in 1993 and a new album, “Looking in the Shadows,” in 1996. Section 25’s unadorned rhythms drew comparisons to Joy Division and Wire (and didn’t get much love in the U.K. press), and the band regrouped earlier this decade after a 10-year hiatus and released “Part-Primitiv” in 2007 and Nature + Degree” in 2009.
