Tonight in L.A.: The Gossip, Tegan and Sara, more

[I’m back from vacation, although I’m not sure my brain is yet, and here to wish Natalie Merchant a happy birthday and offer a wide-ranging menu of show options for tonight:]

The Gossip’s big-sounding major label debut, “Music for Men” [download below], came out this month on Columbia, and the dance-punkers headline the Fonda tonight. There’s a pre-party down the street at Crane’s, and Beth Ditto and crew will also be doing an in-store at Amoeba on Tuesday. … I’m even more impressed by “Sainthood,” the new Tegan and Sara album that is coming out Tuesday. The Canadian twins played the new album in its entirety on Sunday night at the Orpheum Theatre, and they return to the downtown venue for another show tonight. … Synth-wielding Australian trio Midnight Juggernauts jet into town for a show at the Roxy. … Peaches is nearby for a show at the Glass House. … On the local tip, there’s a strong finish to all three of this month’s Silver Lake/Echo Park residencies: Samuel Stewart and Ex-Detectives support Jonneine Zapata at the Silverlake Lounge; Parade of Lights, Nightmare Air and Modern Time Machines support Light FM at Spaceland; and Joanie Mendenhall opens for Correatown at the Echo. … And there’s a great bonus free show at the Echoplex – Olin and the Moon and Michael Runion are playing downstairs. … Also: Train at the House Blues; Marie Digby at the Hotel Cafe (with old fave Emm Gryner playing later in the evening); and Melody Gardot at the Troubadour.
