[Happy birthday to Neil Young. Happy show-going to you, on a busy Thursday night:]
The lineup of the night is surely at the Echoplex, where shoegazey psych-rockers Dead Meadow headline. Imaad Wasif and the Growlers – each of whom recently released new albums – support, as does Useless Keys, who are finishing up new recordings that will probably see release in January. … Jonesing for “Santa Monica”? Art Alexakis has a new lineup surrounding him in Everclear (the new album “In a Different Light” retools some old Everclear songs), and they headline the Roxy. … And Buraka Som Sistema brings its party-starting Afro-electronica to the Mayan Theatre. … Also, in the bigger rooms: John Fogerty at the Kodak Theatre and Huey Lewis and the News at Club Nokia. … In the smaller venues:” F*ck Buttons at the Echo; the Orange Peels at the Bootleg Theater; Rainbow Arabia at the Smell; Exene Cervenka (with Mississippi Man opening) at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; Attack Attack! at the Troubadour; Great Big Sea at the El Rey Theatre; a dance party (and contest) at Spaceland called New York Night Train Soul Clap; Hello Kavita at the Silverlake Lounge; Linda Good and Jason Reeves at the Hotel Cafe; and Nightmare Air, Modern Time Machines and Wrong Way Driver at Mr. T’s Bowl. … And in downtown environs, in conjunction (kind of) with ArtWalk: Telegraph Canyon (check out its new album “The Tide and the Current”) at 2023 (2023 Santa Fe. Ave.) and Cosio, Klum and All Spots to Black at Senor Fish (1st at Alameda).
