Friday’s night’s Tribute to Neil Young (mounted by When You Awake) drew a great crowd to the Bootleg Theatre, and there were some sterling takes on Young’s catalog too – none that I enjoyed more than when Leslie Stevens of Leslie & the Badgers, fronting an all-star band, performed “Heart of Gold,” “Helpless” and “Down by the River” consecutively. Sweet. She leads her own band to stage back at the Bootleg Theater tonight in support of Illinois folk singer Lissie [see previous post]. … Also: Wolfmother at the Wiltern; Cafe Tacuba at Club Nokia; the Bixby Knolls at Spaceland; Kingston at the Viper Room; Brokencyde at the Roxy; Max Tundra and Deastro at the Echo; Joe Perry at the House of Blues; Thrice at the House of Blues Anaheim; and Caitlin Crosby at the Hotel Cafe.
