Local Natives, the local quintet whose harmony-laden indie-pop put smiles on faces all over L.A. in 2009, are signing to Frenchkiss Records. Official announcement is expected later today.

Frenchkiss, the NYC-based indie founded by Les Savy Fav’s Syd Butler, has released music from the likes of the Hold Steady, Passion Pit, the Dodos, the Antlers, Sean Bones and the Big Sleep. Word is that the label plans to release Local Natives’ debut, “Gorilla Manor,” on Feb. 16.

The L.A. band emerged in late 2008 from the ashes of Cavil At Rest and, starting with a Silverlake Lounge residency in February, took the local club scene by storm. After successful gigs at SXSW, a couple of tours and a Spaceland residency, they earned a record deal in the U.K. with Infectious, which released “Gorilla Manor” this fall. Local Natives are currently on tour with two other L.A. success stories from ’09, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Fool’s Gold.
