[Fun, festive fundraisers. Cool concerts. Punchy parties. And the Pity Party. This weekend has it all, and I must be quick so I can try to find my godawful-est sweater for the Christmas Sweater Festival on Saturday:]

Tonight: Foreign Born [pictured] headlines Spaceland. I hope they use the sleigh bells if they play “Union Hall.” … Red Cortez, the VLA, Rademacher and the Growlers play a benefit for Artists in Aid at the Edgar Varela Fine Arts (542 S. Alameda St.). And I wouldn’t be surprised if members of the Airborne Toxic Event find some way to help out. Just sayin’. … Harper Simon, the Chapin Sisters and Farmer Dave make merry at the Bootleg Theater. … Doll & the Kicks and Spirit Vine are playing at Club Underground’s big holiday benefit at the Echoplex. … And Ozomatli might be busting out some tunes from its forthcoming new album when it starts a two-night stand at Club Nokia. … Also: Night 2 of the Ho-Ho-Tel benefit at the Hotel Cafe; the Aquabats at the Fonda; Camp Freddy at the Roxy; the Brian Setzer Orchestra at the Gibson Amphitheatre; Very Be Careful at the Echo; El Vez at the Troubadour; and Paz at the Viper Room.

Saturday: The El Rey Theatre promises to be a stitch. The third annual Christmas Sweater Festival – wear your gaudiest warm thing (some of last year’s contest finalists, pictured) – features a stellar local lineup of the Deadly Syndrome,”  Eskimohunter, Castledoor, the Pity Party, Signals and 400 Blows. … Big night at the Wiltern, where X and Calexico hold forth. … And the LA Record holiday party at Bedrock Studios and Rehearsal (1623 Allesandro in Echo Park) features Leslie & the Badgers, Daedelus, the Soft Pack and tons more. (The RSVP list has closed but maybe you’re special.). … Speaking of special, I hear there may be a surprise guest at the Chelsea Girls show at the Roxy. … Also: Against Me! at the Troubadour; the LA Ladies Choir doing a benefit from 4-7 p.m. at Space 15 Twenty; the Monolators at Origami Vinyl at 7; Danzig and Pennywise at Long Beach Arena; Avi Buffalo at the Prospector in Long Beach; El Ten Eleven at the Bootleg Theater; Dead Meadow at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; Spain and B.R.A.M. at Spaceland; Tenlons Fort in a fundraiser at Pehrspace; the second night of Ozomatli; the third night of Ho-Ho-Tel 2009; and Jail Weddings at the Smell.

Sunday: Cobalt Cranes and 60 Watt Kid tee it up for a Hell Ya! night at Spaceland. … Savage Republic plays the Echo. … Sky Parade tosses a holiday party at El Cid with the Strete & Babe Shadow also on hand. … And Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys do it right at downtown’s Redwood Bar.
