Three SoCal bands with big releases coming in the new year play the Echo – Local Natives, Voxhaul Broadcast and Chief. Local Natives’ “Gorilla Manor” is out Feb. 16 on French Kiss; the NYC-birthed, Santa Monica-based Chief will have an album out on Domino in April. Release plans are fuzzier for Voxhaul Broadcast, but I’m betting the quartet’s sterling new material finds the release it deserves in 2010. … Magic Mirror supports San Francisco’s Leopold and His Fiction at Spaceland. … And at the Echoplex, it’s the forward-looking Plug Research Twenty Ten night featuring Bilal and others live, as well as DJ sets by Daedelus, J. Rocc and Kutmah. … Also: More of Lady Gaga at the Nokia Theatre; Kid Cudi at Club Nokia; Kid Theodore at the Silverlake Lounge; and Mark Ballas at the Hotel Cafe.
