[Oh, the difficult choices – lots of very good local shows going head-to-head tonight:]
The Parson Red Heads, who’ve been working on a new album, surface to play a little music from it as they headline the Bootleg Theater, where Seven Saturdays – who we liked when they were called Firs – celebrates the release of a new EP. And as a bonus, Go West Young Man, who called it quits in August, are pressing restart. … Nice grouping at Spaceland, where Obi Best headlines and is joined by Meredith Meyer, the Monthlies and Queen Kwong. … The Olin and the Moon Tuesday night residency at the Echo continues, and the twangy five-pieced is joined tonight by Eleni Mandell. … At the Hotel Cafe, it’s a big night for the Ruby Friedman Orchestra (Anna Rose and Garrison Starr also perform). … The Secret 6 tee it up at the Silverlake Lounge, and Lantvrn could very well give you reason to stay late. … Also: Vampire Weekend at the sold-out Fonda Theater; Beth Orton at Largo; the Phenomenal Handclap Band at Cinespace; Ruido do Fondo at the Troubadour; Alberta Cross at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; and, if nothing but Danish hard rock will do, L.A. Prostitutes at the Viper Room.
Radio note: Cold War Kids, who play the Wiltern on Jan. 22, are on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic at 11:15 a.m.
