[Birthday holler goes out to Dave Grohl today. Meanwhile, here’s your rather skimpy show slate for tonight:]
The music of Portland quintet the Builders and the Butchers [pictured] has been described as “punkgrass,” and whatever the label says, the band’s album “Salvation Is a Deep Dark Well” is fiery and twangy and intense like whack upside the head. They’re headlining Spaceland tonight, supported by Blue Giant. … Brooklyn rockers Alberta Cross headline the Troubadour; Hacienda and the Jakes support. … In conjunction with the Downtown Art Walk festivities, there’s nice show at Edgar Varela Fine Arts (542 S. Alameda) featuring Correatown and Vanaprasta, among others. … And there’s a great local lineup at the Silverlake Lounge, with Twilight Sleep and the Arms leading the way. … Also: Creedle at the Bootleg Theater; Golden State and the Daylights at the Hotel Cafe; Julia Nunes at the Echo; Safe Haven at the Viper Room; Kimya Dawson at the Smell; Death by Stereo at downtown’s Redwood Bar; and the Finches at Synchronicity Space.
