Tonight in L.A.: Har Mar Superstar, Black Lips

Something about Sean Tillman makes you want to check your inhibitions at the door. As
Har Mar Superstar he manages to make Top 40 safe for indie fans, and last fall’s release “Dark Touches” brings a smile to your face and gives you happy feet too. Over the years his Spaceland shows have been almost legendary affairs, and he restarts the party at the Silver Lake club tonight, with Utah’s
Neon Trees and local quartet
Little Red Radio opening. … Meanwhile, former L.A. phenoms
the Ettes [pictured] play the Echo – the garage-pop trio, who released “Do You Want Power” last fall, got their start in L.A., paid their dues in Eastside clubs and then moved to the other side of the country.
The Blood Arm and
Heavy Young Heathens open. …
Daniel Merriweather, whose debut album “Love & War” is out in the U.S. on Feb. 23 and who was just nominated for a Brit Award, headlines the Troubadour, with Samantha Ronson opening. … Also:
Black Lips and
Japanese Motors at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; the English Beat playing a benefit for Haiti relief at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice; As Tall As Lions at the Glass House; Autodrone at the 3 Clubs; Joshua Norton at the Bootleg Theater; and Jel at the Airliner.
