Ears Wide Open: The Lost Chorus

The first tracks from O.C.-based newbies the Lost Chorus taste like comfort food for rockists – spank-the-kit rhythms beneath a churning, electro-shoegaze sheen that is part ’80s black leather and part ’00s crooked haircut. How members of the Lost Chorus found each other, though, is interesting: O.C. veterans Ryan Dennee and Dirk Lemmenes began writing songs, Alex Albert joined the fray, and the trio set about searching for a singer. They found Andy Zipf – who, unfortunately, was living in Virginia. They traded tracks via mail, with Zipf (who has a solo deal with indie imprint P Is for Panda) adding lyrics and vocal melodies. Keyboardist/backup singer (and music journo) Tatiana Simonian rounds out the lineup. The band makes its live debut this week.
