[We wave deliriously to birthday gal Sheryl Crow as we dive into tonight’s deep, deep list of show options:]

editors3No matter what you think of Editors’ stylistic left turn – the U.K. quartet [pictured] set aside the rapturous post-punk dance music of its first two albums for gloomy synth-pop on its new record, “In This Light and On This Evening” – tonight’s show at the Wiltern promises to be thrilling. NYC art-rockers the Antlers open, their album “Hospice” having gotten all kinds of critical love for its mountains-of-sound drama. As for the headliners, longtime followers will be curious to see how Editors weave their new synthesized mopery (such as “Bricks and Mortar” and “Papillon”) in with propulsive early songs such as “All Sparks” and “Munich.” Either way, black will the color du jour. … The great pairing of the Thermals and Thao with the Get Down Stay Down [see Buzz Bands’ best-of-’09] comes to the Troubadour. … And speaking of troubadours, a trio of excellent ones are in town – Richard Thompson at sold-out Largo; James McMurtry at the Mint, and Justin Townes Earle at the Echo. … Imaad Wasif continues his residency at Spaceland, with support from Becky Stark. … You can get a sneak peek at a Coachella band when Hadouken! plays an early set at the Viper Room. Their U.S. debut “For the Masses” just came out – its grime-influenced dance-punk sounds a bit Warped Tour-ish to me. The Binges and 8mm also play. … Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s Alec Ounsworth plays the Bootleg Theater behind his solo album; two good local acts warm up, Line and Circle and the Romany Rye. … Also: That Noise, along with Night 2 of Big Phony’s album-release party, at the Hotel Cafe: Eyedea & Abilities at the Echoplex; Body Parts at Echo Curio; Captains at the Silverlake Lounge; and Skeletonwitch at the Roxy.
