Sad and beautiful. Dark and lovely. Few indie-pop bands have explored that dichotomy in recent years as well as Illinois-based Headlights did on last fall’s release “Wildlife.” If you don’t have a twee streak at least as wide as the 405, you’d best move on. As for me, the quartet’s spare boy/girl pop – which on this album takes a rather wistful inventory of relationships – is like honey in a late-night cup of tea. The video for “Love Song for Buddy,” which was directed and illustrated by Scott Marvel, is all emotional and manipulative, so, yes, consider my tears jerked.
