[Happy tax day. How many of you are spending your return on Coachella?]
They’ve escaped Orange County for the friendly confines of NYC, but the Willowz are fondly remembered here. Their latest album “Everyone” came out in December (and maybe got lost in the pre-holiday shuffle), and it’s a howling-good collection of punky psych-rock that should have made them stars by now. [That’s Kaylie Schiff’s video for the album’s title track, above.] The quartet plays Spaceland tonight in one of the better T’was-the-Night-Before-Coachella shows. … Ahem. Another one of those shows being: Autolux at the Detroit Bar. … Big pre-festival from the bands actually on the Coachella bill, with Pavement (Fox Theater) and She & Him (Glass House) in Pomona, and the Specials at downtown’s Club Nokia. … Other big stuff: Caetano Veloso, supported by L.A.’s very own AM, at the Greek Theatre; Willie Nelson at the Grove of Anaheim; Lady Antebellum at the Wiltern; and Taylor Swift at Staples. … And some excellent small shows: Astra Heights, the Good Listeners and Red Arrow Messenger at Bordello; Buffy Sainte-Marie and Jonathan Wilson at the Bootleg Theater; Rocco DeLuca at the Hotel Cafe; the Daylights and Brothers at Sea at the Troubadour; We Are the World at the Echo; the Secret 6 at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach; and the Tuffingtons at the Silverlake Lounge.
