Coachella: Deer Tick keeps it schticky

Who: Deer Tick at the Outdoor Theatre.
In 3 or Fewer Words: Nice sundress, dude.
I’ll Remember This for Months Because: Well, mostly because of frontman John McCauley’s sundress, actually. It was good for a guffaw or three, especially when a fan asked for something a little more revealing. “Hey, the guy in the ponytail wants to see my boobies,” McCauley said to laughter. Later, after he ticked off his Coachella recommendations and found that King Khan and the Shrines got a bigger cheer than Jay-Z, he observed that “we’re playing to the right crowd.” Indeed, Deer Tick’s Americana went over well in the midday sun, especially “Smith Hill,” a song McCauley said was written about his old neighborhood in Providence, R.I., and “the miserable old Irish Catholic People who live there.” It was a pretty portrait, especially from a band of folk-rock caricaturists.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was Stuck in Traffic: Man, at least you had air conditioning.
