Ears Wide Open: International Tennis Champions

International Tennis Champions slipped me a cassette of their music after I happened upon their very first show last fall, which reminded me that my car has a cassette player, which reminded me of bygone days when I delivered newspapers out of my car in the wee hours and wore out tape after tape, which reminded me of the simple joys of pop hooks and well-executed harmonies. “Everybody Wins!,” the debut from the songwriting duo of Daniel Luttrell and Lura Jones, plays to my nostalgia perfectly, rooted in ’60s and ’70s pop but with ample modern flourishes to time-stamp it 2010. There’s enough Summer of Love optimism in ITC’s slippery melodies and bewitching boy-girl vocals to bring paisley back – if you’re not singing along, at least get your handclaps on.
