[Birthday shout-out today to Colbie Caillat, all of 25. Enjoy your weekend, everybody.]
Top 6 things asterisked on my concert calendar this weekend:
‣ Flight of the Conchords swoop into the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday to tickle your funny and musical bones.
‣ Also Sunday, Miike Snow plays the first of 2,721 sold-shows in and around SoCal. Well, actually three. There are still tickets available for next Friday’s show in Pomona if you miss them Sunday at the El Rey and Monday and Wednesday at the Fonda Theatre.
‣ The Parson Red Heads lead off a weekend-long parade of shows by good local bands tonight at Spaceland (Olin and the Moon support).
‣ Walking Sleep continues that parade Saturday at the Bootleg Theater, celebrating the release of their debut “Measures.” [More on that later today.]
‣ 400 Blows will make you feel as ferocious as they are on Saturday night at Spaceland.
‣ And One Trick Pony and Rademacher are among the performers at the Rock Against Huntington’s Disease benefit put on by Radio Free Silver Lake on Sunday at Eagle Rock’s All-Star Lanes.
Your tastes may vary: 100 Monkeys, Moses Campbell, Pollyn, Samuel Stewart and Snow & Voices are among the other local-band highlights this weekend, while Angels & Airwaves play the weekend’s big show, at the Palladium. See my roundup on LA Weekly’s West Coast Sound. Or check out You Set the Scene’s deep show list.
