Must be something in the water in Australia – bands with classic rock references worming their way into our ears with flashes of the familiar. While Wolfmother come over like sixth-form swots playing in the garage, learning the Black Sabbath songbook from A to Ozzy, Tame Impala are their slacker younger siblings, hanging out in their bedroom for hours, listening to the White Album and blasting off into a different kind of space altogether. Download the particular tab we’ve torn from the sheet of blotter paper that is “Innerspeaker” (out now on Modular), and here’s something to set the mood as you listen. You’ll be drowned in the sound of octaved riffs; thunderous drumming penetrates the lysergic haze of effects. It’s a tsunami of an album.
