That collective ah-ha you heard this morning emanated from those geeks (ahem, yes, us) who were watching their e-mail when the new song from Blonde Redhead landed. The fuzzy, shoegazey, dream-poppy purveyors of all things ethereal and blurry – did I miss any descriptors? – unveiled a new song, the first since “23” landed atop my Favorite Albums of 2007 list. So where’s the distortion? Not on “Here Sometimes,” which stutters along amid clattering percussion and oozing synths. Kazu Makino still sounds dreamy, but now the geek collective is really curious about what’s next. Which was probably the reason for the teaser song.
