[What a weekend ahead. Festivals, great big shows, great small shows, George Michael’s birthday … There’s a lot to mention here, so follow along.]
Two festivals that have plenty of you buzzing:
‣ Electric Daisy Carnival, today and Saturday at Exposition Park and the L.A. Coliseum. [Set times here.]
‣ Vans Warped Tour, today at the Home Depot Center in Carson and Sunday at Seaside Park in Ventura. [Set times aren’t announced until morning of show.]
Eleven other ways to make your weekend fullfilling and gratifying and probably ensure you’ll go back to work Monday very tired:
‣ The Rescues celebrate the release of “Let Loose the Horses” tonight at the Troubadour. [Their single “Break Me Out” is the free iTunes song of the week.]
‣ Garage-rocker Ty Segall, along with Sonny & the Sunsets, plays tonight at Spaceland.
‣ At the Long Beach Aquarium from 7 to 10 tonight, the “Night Dive” series features Lemon Sun and Jail Weddings.
‣ Seductive Miss Derringer gets all dressed up tonight for the Viper Room.
‣ Black Francis does solo acoustic shows tonight and Saturday at the Mint.
‣ Everest plays a free show as part of KCRW’s Summer Nights series at 7 Saturday at One Colorado.
‣ Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, joined by fiery U.K. quartet the Heavy, do their thing Saturday night at the Wiltern. [Trade your e-mail for a download of the title track of Jones’ album “I Learned the Hard Way.”]
‣ A Place to Bury Strangers, supported by Chicagoans Light Pollution and locals Useless Keys, bring the noise on Saturday at Spaceland.
‣ Lou Barlow holds forth at the Bootleg Theater on Saturday.
‣ Harlem, Voxhaul Broadcast and We Barbarians team up for a great bill Saturday at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa.
‣ Ryan Gosling brings Dead Man’s Bones to the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts on Saturday and Sunday.
And three gallery groupings that sound good:
‣ Moses Campbell tonight at Pehrspace.
‣ The LA Record 100 party Saturday at Nomad Gallery featuring Abe Vigoda.
‣ And a longtime Buzz Bands indie fave, Minipop, is down from San Francisco on Saturday to celebrate its EP release with a show at the Strange Gallery (Melrose at Heliotrope).
