Parson Red Heads, L.A. hardly knew ye

No sooner had I gotten my ears around “Early Birds,” the four-song tour EP that the Parson Red Heads are readying for their summer road trip, than the band announced today it is moving from L.A. to Portland. It’s been five years since the Red Heads moved from Oregon to L.A., winning friends and and fans with their euphoric psychedelic folk music, smile-inducing shows and all-around charm. Maybe it’s the news of the imminent departure of Mr. and Mrs. Way (Evan and Brett Marie) and Sam Fowles, but the Red Heads’ new songs are infused with a gorgeous melancholy and a sense of place – “First Movement” actually talks about a girl’s move to Los Angeles. In the song, Evan Way sings, “I hope you’re happier there / when you think of me,” and there are a lot of people who wish that on the Parson Red Heads.

Hey, Kevin – thank you for this post. Can’t tell you how much we’re going to miss you and everyone else here in this beautiful town … glad everyone’s being supportive about this bittersweet decision!! Really appreciate you, and all you’ve done for us the past 5 years.
loss for the community

wish them all the best–now the Echo show becomes must see
Well, sad to hear Parson Redheads won’t be down here (except on tour), but I wish them the best in Oregon. Another great reason to plan vacations in Portland!!!!
