Ears Wide Open: Solare

Bands come and go in our fair city, to tell you the truth I hadn’t thought about Solare since around 2007, when they released their shoegazey “The Story of the Moon” EP. Turns out there was good reason – the band was on the DL (that’s sports for Disabled List). Guitarist Josh Johnson had back surgery; bassist Christine Bruton went through two arm surgeries; and drummer Tony Anthos split, ostensibly to find able-bodied bandmates. Solare returned to the stage earlier this month, opening for Year Long Disaster at Spaceland, and the trio’s synth-stained atmospheric rock (think: anything Ken Andrews does) has been retooled with new drummer Tim Dow. Delay pedals at the ready, and cue the chorus: They’re giving away this track as a manner of saying, “Remember us?”
