Buzzsicle9

Happy Monday. Here, a few days late, is last week’s edition of the Buzzsicle. Ahem. A very random selection of new and used tracks, it is, and where else are you going to find Au Revoir Simone and some ex-Dance Hall Crashers on a single mixtape? Enjoy. Comment. Thanks.

After the jump, the tracklisting and my notes:
1: Au Revoir Simone, “The Boys Of Summer” – The Don Henley song, recorded live at recently at Go Music’s Mimosa Music Series in Laurel Canyon.
2: Dan Black, “Symphonies (Feat. Kid Cudi)” – Cool remix of Black’s single from “Un;” he’s playing opening the Kelis/Robyn show at the El Rey next Friday.
3: Mystery Jets, “Flash A Hungry Smile” – “Serotonin” just out via Rough Trade; Sept. 17 date at the Troubadour.
4: Roman Numerals, “This Motion” – Kansas City indie.
5: City City, “The Network” – Local quintet playing Thursday at Spaceland.
6: Empires, “Damn Things Over” – Moody Chicago kids.
7: PVT (formerly Pivot), “The Quick Mile” – “Church With No Magic”is set to be released Aug. 10 via Warp Records.
8: Kira Kira, “Drakula Darling” – Real name: Kristín Björk Kristjánsdóttir. Download the song here.
9: Karina Denike, “Musee Mechanique” – Yes, indeed, it’s the former Dance Hall Crashers singer.
10: Dark Dark Dark, “Bright Bight Bright” – What is it with all the redundant band names these days? Chamber-pop sextet from Minneapolis has an album on the way in October.
11: Manhattan, “Old City” – Not from the Big Apple at all, this quartet calls Dublin, Ireland home.
12: Here We Go Magic, “Casual” – New album “Pigeons” is out on Secretly Canadian; at the Troubadour on July 29.
13. Hunting Club, “Raising Arizona” – Minnesota-based quintet with a bit of a Grizzly Bear bent.
14. Young Empires, “Glory of the Night” (demo) – Not to be confused with Empires (above), Young Empires hail from Toronto.
