[It’s a ridiculously busy weekend, but I would be remiss not to wish Rob Dickinson a happy birthday today. Now for the rest of this morning’s presentation:]
Five shows I want to see tonight alone:
‣ Rage Against the Machine (in a battle of the bands with Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band) rages against Arizona SB 1070 at the Palladium.
‣ Robyn will not be dancing on her own tonight – the electro-Swede kicks off the “All Hearts” tour with Kelis at the Music Box.
‣ Delta Spirit arrives home after its first big tour behind the very fine sophomore album “History From Below” and plays the El Rey Theatre.
‣ Longtime fave Jackson Browne visit the Greek Theatre.
‣ And Miguel Atwood-Ferguson brings a 15-piece ensemble to California Plaza for a two-set Grand Performances stand that promises to be genre- and mind-blowing.
There are plenty of nifty smaller shows – Spacehog at 3 Clubs and Rademacher at Casey’s tonight; Miniature Tigers at Spaceland on Saturday; Gangi at the Bootleg Theater and Telegram at Cinespace on Sunday – as well as blowouts like the LA Street Food Festival at the Rose Bowl on Saturday and Reggae Night IX at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday. So, summer safely.
