Since Buzz Bands hasn’t yet expanded to the Land of Cheeseheads, I’m not terribly conversant in a lot of the indie music emanating from the state of Wisconsin. But what the compilation album “Wisco: A Tribute to Wilco’s Summerteeth” lacks in familiar names it makes up for in musicianship and good intentions. The tribute (not unlike the Paul McCartney and Television covers albums released the past two years by Aquarium Drunkard) is a charity affair assembled by the website Muzzle of Bees. Sixteen Wisconsin bands take on songs from the Wilco album, and there are some nice moments, especially from Decibully, the Celebrated Workingman and Conrad Plymouth. Pezzettino and Allen Cote team up on a nifty alternative version of the title track too. It’s all free, though you’re asked, in the nicest Midwestern way, to make a donation to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
