Clinic hail from the Super Furry Animal-school of oddball indie rock, and like the quirky Welsh troupe, this Liverpudlian quartet could never be accused of taking themselves too seriously. Still, the foursome’s light-hearted nature – they routinely take the stage wearing surgical masks and scrubs – never detracts from the very serious business of crafting new music. “I’m Aware,” the first single from the band’s sixth studio album, “Bubblegum” (out Oct 5 on Domino), is something of a departure from Clinic’s more established frenetic, discordant sound, with singer Ade Blackburn’s gentle vocal buoyed by soft strings and lush harmonies. This is soothing music for the morning after the night before.
