Hollywoody quartet the Dance Party makes the kind ’70s-leaning synth-rock that past generations used to take right up the nose. And who knows, maybe they still do, but the foursome, fronted by singer-schoolteacher (now there’s an alter ego) Mick Coogan, have dialed into to a pretty undeniable party vibe, executed more with a smile than a smirk. Coogan and bandmates Kevin Bayly, Dave Keuhl and Jon Jester worked with – no surprise here – Justin Hawkins of the Darkness (among many others) on their debut album “Touch.” It’ll be out Sept. 28 on Warner-affiliated Hell Ya!, a new imprint launched by familiar L.A. face and former KROQ intern/DJ/club night promoter/A&R consultant Heather Peggs. The Dance Party did a string of shows earlier this year at a strip club; “Touch” may very well vault them beyond T&A.

That’d be a great TV show, a teacher who does blow and parties as a rock star on the weekends then goes back to his normal suburban life as a school teacher during the week
