Shepardfairey-sayyes-new

I remember standing at the merch tent at the late, not-so-great Detour Festival in the fall of 2008 and looking longingly at the only item a band called Afternoons had for sale: a Shepard Fairey print for the song “Say Yes.” [That’s the updated-with-the-new-band-name poster, above.] At the time I’d just joined the ranks of the recently unemployed, so I passed on buying one. Silly, because its graphic optimism would’ve come in handy the past two years.

Fortunately, the song has never been far away. With its marching-band horns and Texas-sized chorus, “Say Yes” first emerged on the late, great Indie 103.1 FM, the product of the L.A. septet that emerged from the ashes of Irving and has now become known as Shadow Shadow Shade. And finally, the song is getting a proper release on the band’s debut album, an ambitious, self-titled affair due Oct. 5. Oct. 12. [I just learned it has been pushed back a week.] Go ahead, shout it.
