Tonight’s top 3 shows that don’t involve hitting one of the very good October residency kickoffs:
‣ I don’t usually post amateur live video, but I’ll make an exception for the clip above from Guided by Voices’ Sunday night show at Matador at 21. It’s nice to see that a guy in my age bracket still has hops, as Mr. Pollard displays at 0:46. GBV, tonight, at the Wiltern.
‣ Tired Pony — the supergroup featuring Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol), Peter Buck (R.E.M.) and Richard Colbern (Belle & Sebastian), among others, plays the the El Rey Theatre.
‣ And Twin Shadow, the nom de tune of George Lewis Jr., plays the RSVP-only It’s a School Night. Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear prouced Lewis’ album “Forget.”
Residencies kick off: Radars to the Sky holds forth at Spaceland (Le Switch and Wires in the Walls support); Evan Voytas headlines the Echo (with Blank Blue and Telegram); and Wet & Reckless rocks the Silverlake Lounge (Fences and Robotanists open).
Also: Mark Ballas at the Mint; Adestra and Guy Sebastian at the Viper Room; Kevin Blechdom at Pehrspace; and Lovers & Poets at the Airliner.
