Morgan Kibby rocketed onto the pop radar as the keyboardist/singer for M83 who co-wrote four of the songs on the French band’s 2008 album “Saturdays = Youth.” [She also very kindly contributed the first tour diary for this very blog.] With M83 on a break from touring and Anthony Gonzalez working on new music, Kibby has busied herself as a remixer – including songs by School of Seven Bells, Solid Gold and Seven Saturdays – and as a solo artist. Her first batch of music as White Sea, an EP titled “This Frontier,” was released this week, and it bodes well for the future. Dreamy popscapes, sky-high melodies, spaghetti Western seasoning, ’80s synths, disco rhythms – they add up to big, beautiful drama here, with an obvious single in “Overdrawn.” Five songs, no filler.
