[Why, happy birthday, Thom Yorke …]

Top 6 ways to fill your ears tonight:

Arcade Fire simply made my Lollapalooza. They’re worth seeing, either during their two-night stand at the Shrine Auditorium, or next spring at Coachella, where I’m betting they will be a headliner. Non-believers can now move on to the next item.
‣ Filter’s Culture Collide festival (see my backgrounder, with schedule) kicks off tonight, with the Black Lips, Casiokids, Sebastian Tellier, Voxhaul Broadcast, Gamble House and a bunch of other good stuff.
‣ Illinois-reared, Ojai-based singer-songwriter Lissie headlines the Troubadour, and if you haven’t heard her album “Catching a Tiger,” you should seek it out.
‣ The legendary Dave Alvin (tonight as Dave Alvin & the Guilty Women) plays Brixton South Bay in Redondo Beach.
‣ Also west of the 405, the Ruby Friedman Orchestra plays the Central in Santa Monica (with Queen Caveat).
‣ And very free and very recommended: Sunset, White White Lights and the Dead Trees play the monthly Rumble at 3 Clubs.

Not to mention: Particle at the Roxy; Parlour Suite, the Sweet Hurt and Black Cherry at the Silverlake Lounge; Hawksley Workman and Jay Nash at the Hotel Cafe; Bob Schneider at the Key Club; the Ivy Walls at the Viper Room; and Joe Satriani’s 5:30 p.m. in-store at Best Buy (11301 W. Pico Blvd., West L.A.).
