Top 1 show for a special occasion if were in charge of the special occasion:
‣ Teenage Fanclub and this blogger go way back. Not quite to when I was teenage, but I got “Bandwagonesque” early and never hopped off. Tonight, the Scottish quintet visits the El Rey Theatre behind their new album “Shadows,” supported by their Merge labelmates and all-around good L.A. guys Radar Bros. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s a good story I wish I’d written. If you want to catch up, the 2003 compilation “Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty-Six Seconds – A Short Cut to Teenage Fanclub” is highly recommended. Above, an old video from somebody who never posts old videos.
Feel free to also be excited about: Travis frontman Fran Healy plays the RSVP-only It’s a School Night at Bardot (Carina Round also performs) behind his new solo album “Wreckorder.” He was awfully good and unfailingly charming Sunday night at his Culture Collide acoustic set. … Jessie Baylin hits the Bootleg Theater, with support from local up-and-comers the Belle Brigade. … And three excellent residencies continue: Radars to the Sky (Spaceland, with Red Cortez and George Glass supporting); Evan Voytas (the Echo, with Death Kit and All Wrong and the Plans Change); and Wet & Reckless (Silverlake Lounge, with White Arrows and the Franks).
Also: Windy City Gentleman at the Viper Room; Mark Ballas at the Mint; Danielle Ate the Sandwich at the Hotel Cafe; and Tleilaxu Music Machine at Pehrspace.
Happy Birthday, Bronson!!!!!
