Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes has upped the ante on latest album “False Priest” with a fuller, more bass-heavy sound owed in no small measure to producer Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Kanye West), who has ratcheted the extrovert singer’s lo-fi recordings into much deeper sonic territory. Barnes’ supporting cast has also been given an upgrade, with guest appearances from R&B starlets Janelle Monae (the opening act on the current U.S. tour) and Solange Knowles (sister of Beyonce). Meanwhile, Of Montreal and its label, Polyvinyl, are offering a $500 prize for the best remix of the “False Priest” track “Famine Affair.” Deadline is Nov. 19, and you can get all the details right here.
