[Birthday greetings go out today to L.A. roots legend Dave Alvin …]

Tonight’s top picks on a night making top picks is damned hard:

The Soft Pack (that’s their Gia Coppola/Sam Freilich-directed video for “More or Less,” above) return to their home based for a show at the Echoplex with Kurt Vile & the Violators.
‣ Legend alert: Dean Wareham plays the music of Galaxie 500 at the Troubadour. The Onion’s AV Club had a great interview with Wareham.
‣ Local electro standout Nosaj Thing brings his new dazzling visuals to his headlining gig at the El Rey Theatre with Toro y Moi and Jogger.
‣ Speaking of visuals, Kid Infinity are preparing their next 3D live show scheduled for December (their first one recently at the Smell created quite a stir). Sign up to get on the list for that show here. Meanwhile, check them out tonight at the 5 Star Bar downtown with XBXRX.
‣ And Cursive’s Tim Kasher hits the Bootleg Theatre in support of his very good solo album “The Game of Monogamy.” Darren Hanlon supports.

Not to mention: Sonny & The Sunsets and Tennis at the Echo;  Sabrosa Purr at the Silverlake Lounge; KT Tunstall at the Music Box; K-Ci and JoJo at Club Nokia; Austin Hartley Leonard at the Hotel Cafe; the Supervillains at the Roxy; Lady Sinatra at the Viper Room; Erin McKeown at Largo; Evil Beaver and Cinderella Motel at Spaceland; Sabrosa Purr and Salesman at the Silverlake Lounge; the Smart Brothers and Miracle Parade at the Redwood Bar; Zion I and Audible Mainframe at the Central in Santa Monica; Cassandra Wilson at the Grammy Museum; Particle at the Mint; Tyler Hilton at Brixton South Bay and XBXRX and Kid Infinity at the 5 Star Bar.
