Top show that’s probably worth the road trip:
‣ Blonde Redhead (with Olof Arnalds opening) plays the Glass House in Pomona. The trio’s new album”Penny Sparkle” is more ambient than “23” (the Buzz Bands album of the year in ’07) – easy stuff in which to lose yourself, as the five songs they perform in the “4AD Sessions” video reveal. Blonde Redhead is at the Music Box on Tuesday and Wednesday too.

Top 3 value-added residencies:
‣ Sea of Cortez warms up for the very electric Chasing Kings at the Silverlake Lounge, where the Colourist and Surfwitch also perform.
‣ LA Font, Oh Darling and So Many Wizards comprise a quite good undercard for the Black Apples’ residency at the Echo.
‣ Orange County’s Audacity opens for Dirt Dress at Spaceland, where Cosmonauts and Tomorrow’s Tulips also play.
Elsewhere: Ed Vallance (now based in Brooklyn after some time in L.A., and with a new EP, “The Summer Fire”) and Heather Donavon at the Hotel Cafe; Spoek Mathambo and Rainbow Arabia at It’s a School Night at Bardot; Bryce Avary (of the Rocket Summer) at the Troubadour; a Jeff Buckley Tribute at Largo to benefit the Silverlake Conservatory of Music; Captain Ahab at Pehrspace; Phil Alvin at the Redwood Bar; and El Ten Eleven’s free in-store at Origami Vinyl.
