Video: The Thermals, ‘I Don’t Believe You’

The Thermals get into your head, even when your head is somewhere else. I think I spent a good part of 2006-07 waking up in the morning with “Here’s Your Future” (from the excellent “The Body, the Blood, the Machine”) echoing in my ear parts. It was the hook, and something in the way Hutch Harris sounded like God while railing on religion. So the Thermals’ video for “I Don’t Believe You” (starring Carrie Brownstein and featuring another familiar face at the end) rings very true. The band’s fifth album “Personal Life” (out Sept. 7 on Kill Rock Stars) has those kind of memorable moments, with Harris tackling relationships and their various entanglements in only slightly dialed-back fashion. Unadorned and in your face, the Portland trio continues to make the kind of pop-punk all those Warped Tour kids should aspire to.
