Download: Le Concorde, ‘Cherry Blossom Shadows’

[This will be my final downloads installment of the year. Judging from my backlog of e-mail and mp3s, I’m about 200 posts short of sharing with you all the new stuff that I’d like to. Sigh … Later this week, a year-end roundup.]

The indelible synth-pop of Stephen Becker – d/b/a Le Concorde – was honed by his 15 years in the Midwest, but it took on a whole new shine after he relocated to Los Angeles and released his fourth album “House.” It’s a colorful collision of synths, keys, electronic drums and guitar, and while we might be tempted to compare it to something like Passion Pit or Owl City, there’s something less cloying about Le Concorde’s ’80s plundering. “Make Our Move” and “If Not Now” pack plenty of adrenaline, but the Ben Gibbard-like “The Movement of the Cherry Blossom Shadows” leaves the sweetest aftertaste.
