The Vaccines: 2011’s first shot in the arm?

3

They’re the first Next Big Thing of the new year: The Vaccines are being hailed as the British quartet that could lift music out of its suffocating, synth-drenched morass. A friend e-mailed me Thanksgiving week to gird my ears (and background me with this excellent piece from the Guardian) – was I ready for the next Arctic Monkeys? Actually, yes. The young Englishmen play fast and loud, with songs that don’t overstay their welcome, and from the early buzz they don’t seem too full of themselves. To be sure, their first single, “Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra),” doesn’t take up much space on your hard drive. They debut their wares on American soil next week.
